Lows And Highs

It was just short of a month ago that I posted about some rain finally arriving to help end the weeks and weeks long drought that dried wells and woods in our area. A drought long enough to remind us how precious water really is. Well now I am happy to attest that this drought is definitely in the past as mother Nature has graced us with a whole lot of rain. A huge surplus of rain. And we didn’t complain. We just watched as the lake level went up and some things came back to life. Then we hoped that much of this water would find its way down to the water table before the ground freezes as that is a much slower process.

Right now, the lake is actually higher than normal. Here are some low and highs for comparison.

The shore went from wide to nonexistent.

Our little beach is submerged.

Our burn pile has become an island

And again, we are not complaining. We are thankful. It’s water, and we know how precious water is.

Thank you for reading.

  1. We’ve had quite a few episodes of flooding the last few weeks – last week was the worst I’d seen – my friend couldn’t go home so had to stay another night and I couldn’t get to the first week of my computing course in the city. But the worst is going to be tonight/tomorrow… it’s raining all night and then freezing hard in the morning – everywhere will be an ice rink for a few days as it’s not scheduled to thaw out until Saturday morning 😦

Glad you’ve got your rain though – we never had a shortage this summer here…

  2. Lakes look more natural when the water supply is abundant. We just returned from South Dakota today after spending eleven days with our son and his family. The day after we arrived, they got six inches of snow, but later in the week, they reached record highs in the 70s.
