The End Of The Getaway

The adventures were over, and we were getting close to the end of our getaway. There was one more important thing to accomplish before we headed home. Head north to visit family

Day 5 – Family

On Sunday JT picked us up and we headed north to Newmarket. We used to live just north of there and my husband still has siblings still living in the area. I had made a reservation at The Mandarin, for a Chinese buffet lunch, which was quite tasty for a chain restaurant. The food was fresh and full of flavour. You can be sure that most of us had more than one helping. Nine of us gathered around the large table to chat and catch up. Afterwards we headed over to my husband’s brother’s house to spend a little more time together. It is always nice to see each other, something that is no longer easy to do as people age and the distance between us becomes more difficult for some.

When JT dropped us off close to our hotel, we decided to go for a walk around after sitting for most of the day. We strolled Gerrard Street West, past Bay Street to University Avenue, then backtracked on College Street towards the hotel. This is a modern area of the city where the hospitals and Queen’s Park (home of the Ontario Provincial Legislature) are located, among other things. It was a nice evening for a stroll, even a fairly short one considering how far we had walked on previous days.

Day 6 – Food and Flight Home

Lunch before flying home was the plan, and Thai food was on the menu. We took transit to a small establishment called Thai Nyyom. Located at 1419 Bloor Street West, it is described online as having limited seating and a compact menu of curries, rice dishes and soup. We had to wait a short time for a table, but the wait was well worth it. My husband and I ordered the Khao Soi Chicken and let me tell you that it was one of the most delicious curry dishes that I have ever eaten. The fact that it was reasonably priced with taxes included was another plus. It was a wonderful treat to end our trip with.

Later, we arrived at the airport with a glow of curry satisfaction that would take us all the way home. Check in was fast and easy. The flight was smooth and on time. What can I say other than it was a wonderful getaway.

Thank you for reading.

    1. It was a great trip Pete. The Doc is doing pretty good considering. The medication is making a big difference. He’s not totally his old self and never will be, but there is enough improvement in his state for me to appreciate. I am hoping to plan another similar Canadian trip for us next year. I don’t think there will be any big trips in our future, but I decided I would like to see a bit more of our own country while we still can.
