The Pissed-Off Post

It’s been a while since I published a pissed-off post. The last one was sometime in July. This bitch’s life has been very busy but not very bitchy lately. But, consider it a big but, there are a couple of things that have irked me in recent weeks that are worth noting.

The first one is drivers. As many of you know, I took possession of my new car this summer. I absolutely love my Kona and, with a little help from JT because he also loves my EV, have already racked up over 5000 km in under four months. This may not sound like a lot to many of you, but I am retired and usually drive less than 10,000 km a year so it is more than my average. Please don’t tell my insurance company as my rates are based on low mileage. I’m sure it will all average out at the end of the year.

Anyway what I have noticed since I started driving my Kona is that more drivers are cutting me off. Pickup trucks, SUVs, and other larger vehicles, driven both by men and women so I can’t blame it on my gender, frequently muscle themselves in front of me while changing lanes. More often than not I glance in my rearview mirror when this happens to notice that there is tons of space behind me had they waited until I passed by. Previously, in my Subaru Forrester, this may have happened a couple of times a year. In my new Kona, it happens a couple of times a month. Now I am not a slow driver. My car is peppy and I do not look like a little old lady so the only thing I can attribute it to is the fact that I am driving a smaller car, and that pisses me off. Luckily I have a horn to show my displeasure.

The second thing that has really bothered me is a person who has blatantly taken credit for another person’s work. As graphic designer, I understand the importance of copyrights and being acknowledged for your work. Someone taking credit for my ideas or work is something that has always made me very angry. Even if it is just a household idea that helps me out, I reference the person or place where I got the idea from when telling others about it. Using other people’s art is something that happens a lot these days. Especially with the ease of scooping photos and words from the internet without caring.

What I saw last week was so obvious to me that I couldn’t believe that it was done. A Nova Scotia artist named Heather Lawrie-Morse created a sculpture for a local garden club. The sculpture was of a large Monarch Butterfly sitting on Milkweed flowers. It is a bright eye catching piece that has made the rounds on local gardening and art sites. Imagine my surprise when I saw it in a blogger’s post where not only the photo was used, but the artist’s exact words in first person. The first sentence was, “I made this piece for the Fall River Garden Club.” The artist’s name was no where to be seen. It was as if the blogger created and photographed the piece herself. As I read some comments, I couldn’t believe that when people were saying how talented she was, her responses to these comments were so ambiguous. I have also seen this blogger post photos that have been shared by the Nova Scotia Archives without giving them credit. I know some things are meant to be shared without credit, like all the silly memes on FB, but some things aren’t. Since I was finding all this very frustrating, I decided to quietly unfollow this blogger. I have no desire to name names. I just don’t need to be pissed off on a daily basis.

Thank you for reading.

  1. I was just thinking the other day that you haven’t been very bitchy of late! ;-)

I’ve put a copyright message on my blog to let people know that they SHOULDN’T be using my photos or text without crediting me for it. But photos do get taken. I had one of my former mountain guides write to be a while back saying someone had one of my photos on their blog without crediting it. I wrote to the blog owner and he reckoned it was an unfinished post and that it would be referenced – not sure if it was or not but at least he knew people were watching him! Not that I take any masterpieces anyway! ;-)

    1. Ha ha. Blogging sometimes keeps bitching at bay.

It really bothers me when people pass of other’s work as their own. I don’t mind people sharing my blog stuff if they give credit. I would be quite pissed if I was an artist trying to make a living from my creativity.

  2. Hi. I barely enjoy driving anymore. I live in the suburbs, near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Around here, and around most places I’ve been, there’s no such thing as a casual, pleasant drive anymore. There are just too many vehicles on the road, too many road construction projects, etc. Not to mention obnoxious drivers.

  3. I enjoy your bitchiness. I wonder why drivers are cutting you off in your new vehicle? I don’t get that at all and applaud your bitchiness. Be careful.

As for a blogger who takes credit for that which she didn’t make, uh huh. I see that sort of thing on Threads and Twitter. It ruffles my feathers, but I just walk away like you did. Karma is a bitch and she knows where these people live. That’s my take on it.

    1. Thanks. I actually enjoy my bitchiness as well. I really think it is a car size thing when it comes to other drivers. I am happy that my car is loaded with warning sensors and safety features.

Personally, my conscience wouldn’t let me take credit for the work of others. I can’t control those who do it though so walking away is the best option for me. I have no desire to be associated with people like that. I like your take.

  4. While I understand your driving complaints, some of those incidents are probably more to do with carelessness than mean-spirited. Taking credit for someone else’s work is far more serious because it involves criminal activity. I hope the thief gets a severe fine and a major hit to their reputation.

  5. The bitch is back 🎶 I believe I know who you are talking about and I have been having similar concerns about other posts. An Alberta post to be more specific. I have been unsure what to do about it too. And it is pretty obvious that it is not just that post, it is most of them lately. Maggie

  6. Oh man, taking credit for another’s work is so wrong. I don’t think I could have shown the restraint that you did… I’d call her out – or at least send a private message. Of course, now I’m curious as to who the cheater is. Someone I don’t follow, I guess, since I haven’t seen the sculpture.

    1. Originally I wanted to call her out but then I realized that it probably would get messy and stressful and may not accomplish anything else. Definitely not worth the aggravation. It was easier and calmer to walk away. Those who follow her and read me will realize.
