No doubt about it, this Halloween, this usually sweet time for so many kids, is an abnormal one. It seems that COVID has curbed trick or treating in my neighbourhood even though here in Nova Scotia we have as few as 5 cases in the province.
I have to admit that I am surprised at this and expected more than the total of three kids who came to my door. I expected around thirty and prepared for fifty, buying less than I usually do but then again I always buy too much.
I purchased two packages of small assorted bars, one the regular non-peanut variety and the other with some nutty bars so I could get my annual treat. I prefer savoury over sweet and really don’t like most candy. The only way I enjoy chocolate is when it is combined with nuts. So every year I purchase some Halloween treats containing nuts and keep the best of them for myself.
This afternoon I opened the partially nutty box of treats, which I managed to avoid until today, to discover that there were only four packages of Peanut M&M’s and each tiny pack contained six or less little candies. Talk about disappointing. All I could think about, while devouring these few nutty gems was the full bag of nothing but Oh Henry Bars that I left on the shelf at the grocery store this week. Why, Why, Why didn’t I buy it instead?
Now the question remaining is what the heck am I going to do with all the other treats left over from this sad, sad, sad excuse for Halloween.
